Ep 143: Is there a defence for gambling sponsorships?

Once again, football's relationship with betting is in the spotlight, after EFL Chairman Rick Parry took a seemingly unique stance among high-profile figures in the game, stating that EFL research reveals that there isn’t any evidence that ‘sponsorship leads to an increase in gambling or gambling harm’.

With this being one of the strongest public comments in support of betting sponsorships and advertisements, how valid a defence is the importance of the financial support the industry provides? To what end does the investment by Flutter, EFL sponsor Sky Bet's parent company, going to research and education, counteract the much publicised potential negatives around betting sponsors?

To discuss this, Insider Sport's Callum Williams hosts a special iGaming Daily episode, joined by Insider Sport editor and author of the IS story on the topic at hand, as well as SBC Sponsorship Director George Harborne.
